SCIENCE NOTEBOOKS
All important notes, handouts, lab sheets, and reflections completed during the entire year are organized in a notebook. Students try to explain their understanding in writing. Often, students will attempt to connect the evidence gathered from labs to answer an inquiry based question. The ability to explain (using the CLEAR method) how the evidence answers the inquiry question is an extension of the writing skills acquired in literacy.
Since the science notebook is such an integral part of our daily regimen, it needs to be brought to class daily or stored on a shelf in the room. Parents should ask to see the notebook so you can celebrate successes, address weaknesses and help them study for the assessments.
